Giacomo Gozzini
Composer
Bio
Touching, enchanting, magical, pleasant and refined. These are only some of the adjectives that have been used to describe the music of Giacomo Gozzini. In his music, harmonic complexities are mastered with ease, and their intensity takes the listener to another world. He is always in search of new ways forward and after an extensive exploration of the forms and the characters of Western music, between echoes from the past and modern style, his music appears ever fresh, personal, and attuned to the needs of the audience.
As a child, Giacomo Gozzini grew up in a musically rich environment. He took his first piano lessons at the age of 10, and after a few years of experimentation, he started studying at the Brescia Conservatory of Music, where he graduated in organ. While studying for his degree in organ, he also pursued conducting and composing, perfecting his skills at the Parma Conservatory of Music, in Luca Tassardelli’s composition class; the same rooms that once hosted musicians of the caliber of Ildebrando Pizzetti, Gian Francesco Malipiero and Franco Margola.
In addition to his academic studies, during his career he has also had the opportunity to experiment with his musicality in the sphere of sacred music where he has developed a passion for vocality, from Gregorian chant to more contemporary sounds. This together with his love for soundtracks, has won him numerous awards, including: First Prize at the Youth International Music Competition (Atlanta); First Prize at Bach International Music Competition (Gdańsk); the Diamond Prize at the Couperin International Music Competition (Wembley); An Honourable Mention at the Classic Pure Vienna International Music Competition; First Prize at the “Salvatore Quasimodo” International Competition (Roma); First Prize at the “Padre David Maria Turoldo” International Music Competition (Udine); First Prize at the “XI Memorial Bruna Liguori Valenti” (Roma); Second Prize at the “VII Sacrarium” Sacred Music International Competition (Lviv).
In his creative career, Giacomo Gozzini has composed sacred music, symphonic music, chamber music, and soundtracks, performed by national and international artists, and musical ensembles. His works are published by Universal Edition, and Aldebran editions (Brescia). In the 2022-2023 Academic Year he was a professor of harmony theory and analysis at the “Francesco Cilea” Conservatory of Music in Reggio Calabria.
